Although Borderline Personality Disorder is a fairly new diagnosis, with even newer therapy choices, those of us who have accepted our ailment and worked hard at recovery are now beyond just managing the symptoms. We’re living fantastic lives.
The diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder can lead to entering into effective treatment and getting on with living a meaningful life. The recovery is worked in 3 steps: Firstly we must accept the diagnosis, get educated and find therapy. Secondly, we must get symptoms under control and going into remission. Lastly we need to build relationships, find meaningful work, and believe in self.
As you may envision, step three is where the actual fun begins, but ultimately we all understand how to embrace every little thing about our lives, even the hard parts from the past. If you’re in step two and beginning to get your BPD symptoms under control, you will find some things you can start performing now to lead into step three.
Begin getting involved with people, even when it’s only through the “mental health” community, such as support groups for all those with mental illness. You might also find people in church groups or college courses. Take a self-inventory of what you truly love and join a club or group of like-minded individuals.
What is Borderline Personality Disorder? – To locate meaningful work that makes you really feel good about your self, begin by building on serving in a much more organized way. For example, as soon as you have gone to that certain club or group for a little while, volunteer to make the coffee or put up the chairs each time. Over time, your resilience and confidence will grow and you will be in a position to complete a lot more.
